Simulation-based engineering (SBE) has revolutionized the industrial sector. Computer simulations are critical for control of manufacturing processes, non-destructive-testing and decision-making at production phases, and shorten the lead-time of design and development processes, thus reducing both costs and time-to-market.
15 positions are currently open to follow a international PhD programme in Spain (UPC), France, Italy, Germany, UK, Netherlands, Belgium and Portugal. All projects linked to the industry.

Professor Núria Pinyol Puigmartí, from the Geotechical Engineering and Geo-Sciences section of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been selected, at the Spanish Society of Rock Mechanics (SEMR) and the Spanish Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (SEMSIG) proposal, to give the 2nd Hutchinson Lecture organized by the JTC1 Committee on natural slopes and landslides.

Three new projects of Civil Engineering School of UPC-BarcelonaTech have been selected in the latest Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) call for individual fellowships under the European Horizon 2020 (H2020) research programme. The aims of these projects are to create numerical methods to make more precise simulations; to create systems for assessing the threats of climate change to the seafront and to create a tool for earthquake risk assessment.
In the field of Civil and Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering School of UPC-BarcelonaTech ranks 34th in the world and is the top Spanish university in 2018 edition of QS World University Rankings by Subject.
The conference will take place 5th - 8th September 2018 and will be organized by Escola de Camins - UPC BarcelonaTech, and EUCEET (European Civil Engineering Education and Training) Association.

The researcher Amir Abdollahi of the UPC’s Numerical Calculus Laboratory (LaCàn) participated in a study that found that flexoelectricity may be responsible for regenerating bone tissue damaged by microfractures.
