Kratos Multiphysics started in 2001. It was one of the first open-source projects in CIMNE which raised much doubt about its maintenance, reliability, and success.

This PhD thesis presents a research work on freeway traffic management. The goal is to improve capacity and reduce congestion, especially in metropolitan freeways where the rush period lasts several hours per day. Traffic congestion causes delays and an increase in air-pollutant emissions, both with harmful effects to society.
Submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) has received increasing attention over the past two decades as a source of nutrients, trace elements and pollutants to the ocean that may alter coastal biogeochemical cycles.
In this seminar several developments carried out by the authors on reduced order modeling (ROM) for fluid mechanics problems will be presented. An approach for Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) methods which take into account the effect of the discarded modes through a Variational Multiscale Method (VMS) will be explained, together with a strategy for combining POD and finite element simulations. Finally, a recent ROM model based on adaptive mesh refinement and artificial neural networks will be presented.
The EGU has named the 49 recipients of next year’s Union Medals and Awards, Division Medals and Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Awards. These individuals are honoured for their important contributions to the Earth, planetary and space sciences. They will receive their prizes at the EGU 2020 General Assembly, which will take place in Vienna on 3–8 May. The EGU has also announced the winners of the Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Awards corresponding to the 2019 General Assembly.
Launched in September 2019, COREWIND (COst REduction and increase performance of floating WIND technology) is a Horizon2020 project which aims to achieve cost reduction of offshore floating wind technology (15% LCOE reduction) by optimizing two components: mooring systems (including anchors) and power dynamic cables.

Ricardo Giesen is Director of the BRT+ Centre of Excellence (www.brt.cl) and Associate Professor at the Department of Transport Engineering and Logistics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). He received his PhD in Transportation Systems from the University of Maryland College Park in 2007, and before a M.S. in Transportation Engineering in 1998 and a B.S. in Civil and Industrial Engineering in 1995 from the PUC. He specializes in operations of transportation systems, public transit planning and operations, and logistics and distribution optimization.
