The new Badalona Oil Bridge

Thursday, June 30, 2022

After storm Gloria broke the Badalona Oil Bridge, the City Council has planned its reconstruction. Of the two finalist options, the neighbors have chosen one.

More than 6,000 people from Badalona have participated in the vote on the two options proposed and finally, two out of three have chosen a new bridge with a rounded end and a hole in the center.

Professor Agustín Sánchez-Arcilla, director of the Maritime Engineering Laboratory of Barcelona School of Civil Engineering, explains how tests have been carried out to assess the feasibility of the models presented and why the one chosen is the most hydrodynamic solution.

The Maritime Engineering Laboratory has been in charge of analyzing the collapse caused by the storm Gloria and has studied the new project proposal using numerical models. At this time, once the option has been chosen, it is necessary to check again with hydraulic and almost real tests in the laboratory channel. Works are expected to start in the second quarter of 2023.
