Machining is one of the manufacturing techniques that allows to get finished products with high strength and high accurate dimensions. This technique consists basically in subtracting material from massive piece.

Machining is one of the manufacturing techniques that allows to get finished products with high strength and high accurate dimensions. This technique consists basically in subtracting material from massive piece

It is exactly the opposite of additive manufacturing which has grown exponentially last years, and is in the spotlight of the research in the field computational mechanics. However, modelling subtractive manufacturing is as complex as modelling the additive one.

In terms of the numerical modelling of the process, one must account for multi-physics processes, contacts and continuously changing boundaries. In the present seminar I will talk about how to face the problems encountered in the modelling of machining using the PFEM and its implementation in Kratos.
