The EGU has named the 49 recipients of next year’s Union Medals and Awards, Division Medals and Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Awards. These individuals are honoured for their important contributions to the Earth, planetary and space sciences. They will receive their prizes at the EGU 2020 General Assembly, which will take place in Vienna on 3–8 May. The EGU has also announced the winners of the Outstanding Student Poster and PICO (OSPP) Awards corresponding to the 2019 General Assembly.
The following individuals will receive 2020 Division Medals:
Henry Darcy Medal: Xavier Sánchez-Vila. Profesor UPC. Hydrology Group. DECA
This medal was established by the Hydrological Sciences Division in recognition of the scientific achievements of Henry Darcy. It is awarded to individuals in recognition of their outstanding scientific contributions in water resources research and water resources engineering and management.
The following individuals will receive 2020 Division Outstanding Early Career Scientist Awards:
Energy, Resources and the Environment (ERE) Division.: Estanislao Pujades. Doctorate by UPC, Hydrology Group. DECA
The Division Outstanding Early Career Scientists Award (formerly Division Outstanding Young Scientists Award) recognises scientific achievements in the field covered by the related division, made by an early career scientist.Candidates for the Division Outstanding Early Career Scientists Award are first evaluated by the relevant division presidents who forward the best candidate to the chair of the Union Awards Committee. Four candidates are then selected by the Council and awarded at the Union level (Arne Richter Award for Outstanding Early Career Scientists). The remaining best candidates are awarded by the relevant division.
