Barcelona School of Civil Engineering hosts the final event of the European ICARIA project on climate resilience

Thursday, February 19, 2026

On Friday, March 13th, the School of Civil Engineering will host the closing event of the ICARIA project (Horizon Europe), focused on protecting critical infrastructure against climate change. The event will combine on-site and on-line participation and will present the project's results.

The ICARIA project was created with the mission of providing state-of-the-art methodologies to strengthen the resilience of infrastructures to extreme weather events. During the event, the solutions developed in the project's three pilot regions will be explored: the Barcelona metropolitan area, Salzburg, and the South Aegean archipelago.

The workshop will feature a presentation by Mr. Francisco Espejo, Deputy Director of the Insurance Compensation Consortium, who will speak about the damage caused by the cut-off low (DANA) in Valencia, highlighting the urgent need for robust climate adaptation measures.

In addition, a roundtable discussion will be held with strategic partners to discuss the research conducted and the future applications of these tools in urban and territorial planning.

To conclude the workshop, attendees will have the opportunity to visit the UPC Hydraulics Laboratory, a leading facility where they can learn firsthand about the research infrastructure that supports such important transfer projects as ICARIA.
