The researcher from Escola de Camins, Enrique Romero Morales, will continue to lead this prestigious committee of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE).
Professor Enrique Romero Morales, from Civil Engineering School of Barcelona, has been recently re-elected as Chair of the International Technical Committee on Unsaturated Soils (TC106) of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE). This reappointment for a second term consolidates his influence and expertise within the field of geotechnical engineering on a global scale.
TC106 is the leading global body for the dissemination of knowledge and engineering practices in unsaturated soil mechanics. The committee currently comprises 94 members from national geotechnical engineering societies across 40 countries, spanning the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.
Under Professor Romero’s leadership during the previous term, TC106 organized and sponsored several international conferences and presented prestigious awards and distinctions, such as the Bright Spark Lectures and the Distinguished Lectures on Unsaturated Soils. Notable recent milestones include:
- 8th Asia-Pacific UNSAT 2024 (Melbourne, Australia).
- 4th Pan-American UNSAT 2025 (Ottawa, Canada).
- 5th European UNSAT 2025 (Lisbon, Portugal).
- 4th Unsaturated Soil and Environmental Engineering Symposium (January 2026), recently held at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest.
With this re-election, Professor Enrique Romero Morales reaffirms his commitment to cutting-edge geotechnical research and his capacity to lead international organizations that are shaping the future of the profession.
