The Civil Engineering School of Barcelona, in collaboration with the University of Palermo, is organizing the course: "Introduction to OpenSees for Seismic Analysis of Structures." An intensive, free training program on advanced seismic modeling using OpenSeesPy, taught by international experts.
Professor Luca Pelà of the School of Civil Engineering, within the framework of the Winter School, is organizing a training course focused on seismic engineering simulation. Titled "Introduction to OpenSees for Seismic Analysis of Structures," the course will take place between late January and early February 2026 at the Campus Nord.
This in-person training, which is free for PhD, Master’s, and exchange students enrolled at the UPC, aims to equip students with the theoretical and practical skills necessary to master OpenSees (Open System for Earthquake Engineering Simulation).
The 24-hour course combines theoretical classes with practical sessions to guide students through the structural modeling workflow using OpenSees: from basic linear structures to advanced nonlinear simulations, with a specific emphasis on its Python interface, OpenSeesPy.
The course will be taught by renowned specialists in the field:
-
Prof. Fabio Di Trapani (University of Palermo), expert in nonlinear analysis and seismic optimization.
-
Eng. Sofia Villar (Politecnico di Torino), visiting researcher at the UPC specializing in high-fidelity modeling.
