Professor Manel Grifoll of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has been appointed director of the Maritime Engineering Laboratory of the UPC, replacing professor Agustín Sánchez-Arcilla.
Manel Grifoll holds a doctorate in Civil Engineering from the UPC and has an extensive academic and research career in the field of coastal and port hydrodynamics, as well as numerical and experimental modeling of marine systems. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and teaches at Barcelona School of Civil Engineering and the Nautical Faculty at the UPC.
He has been linked, for reasons of research and teaching, to AZTI-Tecnalia (Basque Country), the University of Molde (Norway), the University of Ningbo (China) and the US Geological Survey (Woods Hole, United States). Recently, he has been a visiting researcher (2021-2023) at the University of Dundee (United Kingdom) in the field of stratified flow dynamics, where he has combined numerical modeling, laboratory tests and field measurements.
