Last June 4, the 43rd edition of the postgraduate scholarships awarded by La Caixa Foundation was held. In this edition, our graduate Àgata Roman, from the Bachelor's degree in Marine Sciences and Technologies, had the honor of being one of the 100 candidates among more than 1,000 applications.

During her studies at the Escuela de Caminos, Àgata obtained a Learning Scholarship from the UPC to work as an assistant professor in the Department of Applied Mathematics. Later, he joined the Laboratorio de Ingeniería Marítima (LIM/UPC) as an R+D intern, with a Research Initiation Grant (INIREC) granted by the UPC and a Collaboration Grant from the Ministry of Education, with which he did his final degree project.

He also did two internships in companies such as Aortyx and SENER. In Aortyx, he applied his knowledge of fluid mechanics to numerically simulate the blood flow along an aortic dissection, and in SENER he contributed to the development of an early warning system with Python.

Àgata graduated with an average grade of 9.7 and obtained honors in 22 subjects and in the final degree project. She will soon publish her first article as second author in the proceedings of the 38th International Conference of Coastal Engineering.

The scholarship has allowed her to continue her training in Coastal Engineering at the Imperial College of London where she has taken a master's degree in Engineering Fluid Mechanics for Marine, Coastal and Constructed Environments.
