Effects of freezing on the behaviour of piles foundations and slab

The effects of Artificial Ground Freezing (AGF) on the behaviour of existing pile foundation structure is presented in this seminar, related to the excavation of San Giovanni station Line C metro. In particular, the tunnel of metro C line has been constructed between the existing pile of metro line A due to important archaeological finds. The effects of freezing are evaluated using a fully coupled THM approach (Nishimura et al 2009) able to describe the effects of temperature below zero and implemented in the FEM code Code_Bright.
